A Close Look At The Home Security Features You Should Consider As A First-Time Customer

by Gabe Herrera

Whether you live in a peaceful suburb or a dangerous neighborhood in the middle of the city, there is a lot of peace of mind that comes with knowing that your home is rightly protected. If you have been making plans to reach out to a home security company to get a system installed in your house, there is no time like the present. Alarmingly, a home is broken into in the United States about every 15 seconds. Before you make the decision about what security company you prefer to trust with the system installation, you should gather a list of home security system features you must have. Here are a few to consider.

Motion Detectors - Motion detectors are one of the more common home security features. The detectors are activated along with the security system when you leave so that any movement inside the house trips the alarm. Motion detectors can also be implemented with surveillance equipment to capture footage only when someone or something is moving around outside of the house.

Panic and Alert Buttons - Panic and alert buttons automatically and silently contact the local authorities when they are pressed. These buttons are an awesome addition to a home security system because if someone already in your home becomes a threat or if you are injured and home alone, you can have help on the way with the press of a button.

Pressure Sensitive Mats - Pressure sensitive mats slip under certain areas of flooring or under a welcome mat to detect pressure that comes along with footsteps in the area. These mats can be activated when you are not home to alert you if someone is moving around in the house or standing at the door.

Temperature Detection Devices - If you are concerned about fire when you are away from home, your security system can include temperature detection devices that will send an alert to you when something seems off and there is a dramatic fluctuation. As an added bonus, these devices also sense excessively low temperatures that could be a result of a heating outage, which would also be helpful to know about when you are away from home.

Magnetic Window Sensors - These sensors send a signal to the alarm when a window in the house is opened either from the outside or the inside. Because a lot of burglars will try to make their way into a home through windows instead of doors, it is important to have these vulnerable areas monitored.
